The Detroit Pistons will attempt to put the brakes on a seven-game losing streak Tuesday, when they welcome the New York Knicks to The Palace of Auburn Hills.
The Pistons will also play host to Chicago on the brief residency and are 8-6 at home this season. They suffered their seventh consecutive defeat on Sunday in a 102-95 decision at Toronto, as Richard Hamilton returned to the lineup from a sore right hamstring and scored 15 points for the Pistons
Ben Gordon netted 15 points off the bench, while Rodney Stuckey had 14 points, eight boards and five assists in a losing cause.
“Early in the game I didn’t feel like I had my legs, but it got better as the game went on,” Gordon said. “We had some decent looks later in the game, but just couldn’t make the shots.”

The Detroit Pistons continued a hellacious West Coast swing in Portland on Wednesday night and the result was similar to the Pistons’ loss to the Los Angeles Lakers the night before.
The Trail Blazers jumped out to a huge second-half lead and had to fend off a furious Pistons rally in the fourth quarter to escape with an 87-81 victory.
Here are some notes from the game:
Stuckey put it together too late: If you watch the highlights of the game or see the final stat line of 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, you might be fooled into thinking Rodney Stuckey had a decent game. That was definitely not the case

Coming into this season, it was expected that the Pistons would be a running team that would threaten to score 100 points on a nightly basis.
But after seven games the Pistons have only cracked the 100-point barrier one time and are averaging 91.3 points — 25th in the league after Sunday’s games.
Plans to bring showtime to the Palace were put on hold with major injuries to veterans Rip Hamilton (severely sprained right ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (ruptured disk).

When he first sprained his right ankle, Rip Hamilton said it felt like the ankle “actually hit the floor.”
That was the first sign that it wasn’t a run-of-the-mill sprain. Hamilton — and the Pistons — is lucky it isn’t broken.
The Pistons probably will be without Hamilton the next two games — definitely tonight’s home contest against the Magic and likely Wednesday’s game at Toronto.
Hamilton hurt his ankle with 5 minutes left in the season opener at Memphis on Wednesday. An initial X-ray proved negative. The Pistons took another X-ray as a precaution when he returned to Detroit, and it also was negative. Still, there was significant swelling and bruising, and Hamilton was placed in a walking boot because he could hardly put any pressure on the ankle.

Pistons guard Richard Hamilton said Thursday he was not sure he would be able to play in Friday night’s home opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder because of a sore right ankle.
Hamilton stepped on O.J. Mayo’s foot and came up limping during Wednesday night’s 96-74 victory at Memphis. He left the game briefly but returned to play.
Hamilton was still wearing the same tape he wore during the game to reduce swelling.
“It hurts more today than it did last night,” Hamilton said.

The wrapping on Kwame Brown’s left hand has seemingly gotten bigger and bigger as the exhibition season has progressed.
But the padding hasn’t helped the hand heal to Brown’s liking, so he said Wednesday that he’s going to have it checked to make sure the injury isn’t serious.
Brown said his left hand is getting progressively worse and he will undergo X-rays today to determine the severity of the injury.
Brown, who did practice Wednesday, suffered the injury early in training and has worn the wrap since.
“It’s not frustrating, it’s just a part of the game,” he said. “I’ve been trying to focus on other things I can do as far as getting teammates open, rebounding and running and playing defense. But it’s definitely hindering a little bit of my game. I’m not as aggressive as I want to be.”

Don’t be surprised if center Kwame Brown and forward Ben Wallace begin the year as starters for Pistons coach John Kuester.
“We still have a lot more preseason to go — we’ve got two weeks,” Kuester said Sunday. “There are a number of challenges ahead of us to see how this all plays out. There are so many guys deserving of time, so it’s been challenging that way.”
Kuester acknowledged that Brown and Wallace “set a tone defensively for you.”
The coach wants people who understand “what it’s going to take for us to be successful defensively.”

The Detroit Pistons have signed free-agent forward Chris Wilcox to a multiyear contract.
The agreement was first reported by ESPN.com’s Chad Ford. A source said the contract is for two years and $6 million.
The 26-year-old Wilcox has appeared in 448 NBA games since the Los Angeles Clippers drafted him eighth overall in 2002. He also has played for Seattle/Oklahoma City and New York, averaging 9.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 21.7 minutes per game in his career.

The Detroit Pistons wanted to add talent and get younger this offseason.
On the first day of free agency, Detroit did both. Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva agreed in principle to five-year contracts with the Pistons, a person with the knowledge of the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday night. The person, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because NBA rules prohibit announcing deals with free agents until next week, said Gordon’s contract is worth $50-plus million and Villanueva will make at least $35 million.

Hours before the start of NBA free agency, Detroit Pistons president Joe Dumars made a splash of a different sort Tuesday, firing coach Michael Curry after just one season amid ongoing concerns about Curry’s command of the locker room and fears that keeping him could hamper Detroit’s offseason business.
NBA front-office sources told ESPN.com that the Pistons — projected to have more spending money than any team in the league when the market opens for business at 12:01 a.m. ET Wednesday — had been contemplating the move for weeks after Curry’s rocky debut season, and decided to go ahead with the change, in part to help maintain their position as the team with the most free-agent ammunition this summer.
